How a generous parental leave works

Extended paid parental leave beyond the statutory minimum

Extended paid parental leave well beyond the statutory minimum
Typically equal for all parents — birth, adoptive, and partners
Standard 40-hour week the rest of the time
Often paired with phased return-to-work options

Best for: people planning a family who want real paid time with a new child without a career penalty.

Everything you need to know about 4-day week jobs

A generous parental leave policy keeps a standard full-time week, but is designed to protect work-life balance — the exact structure varies by employer. The companies on this page have all publicly documented their version (how much leave, which days, or how flexibility is granted), so their listings show the specifics; expand any role to see exactly how that employer runs it. For genuinely shorter-week roles, filter by a reduced-hours schedule such as a 4-day week or 9-day fortnight in the sidebar.

Currently, software and technology companies dominate the generous parental leave listings, followed by consulting firms, product organisations, and an increasing number of professional services and healthcare employers. This page lists 1209 open roles at 10+ companies including MongoDB, Anthropic, and S&P Global. The range is broadening each year as high-profile pilots publish results and competitive-hiring pressure pushes more sectors to adopt these arrangements.

Yes — and that is the point of listing these roles separately. A generous parental leave arrangement is explicitly pro-rata: hours come down and pay scales with them, which is a different deal from the full-pay reduced week most of 4dayweek.io lists. Every role here is labelled as such on the listing and in its schedule badge, so nothing is hidden behind a schedule name. If you want reduced hours at 100% salary instead, browse the 4-day-week pages — those employers have publicly committed to holding pay flat.

The most successful approach is to propose a trial period with clear success metrics — what output you'll maintain, how you'll track it, and when you'll review. Reference the published pilot data: the UK 4-day-week trial saw 92% of participating companies continue post-trial, with flat or improved revenue. Pitch it as a productivity experiment, not a lifestyle perk. If your employer declines, every company listed on this page already operates on a generous parental leave — switching may be faster than convincing.

Generous Parental Leave is one of several work-life-balance arrangements we list, alongside genuinely reduced-hours patterns (4-day weeks, 9-day fortnights, part-time) and other flexibility policies (flexible hours, generous or unlimited leave, no-meeting days). The common thread on 4dayweek.io is a better work-life balance, with full pay on all but the clearly-labelled part-time and pro-rata roles. Different arrangements suit different industries and teams — expand any listing to see how that employer structures it.
