About Anthropic
What is Anthropic?
Anthropic is an AI safety and research company, and in its own words "a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco" — a line that appears in every one of its live job ads. Its stated purpose is "the responsible development and maintenance of advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity," and its governance is unusual: "Our Board of Directors is elected by stockholders and our Long-Term Benefit Trust." The company is led by siblings Dario Amodei (CEO) and Daniela Amodei (President), and builds Claude, its family of AI assistants.
In May 2026 Anthropic announced that it "has raised $65 billion in Series H funding led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, valuing the company at $965 billion post-money," noting in the same announcement that "our run-rate revenue crossed $47 billion earlier this month."
Where will I work?
Anthropic is headquartered in San Francisco and lists offices in New York, Seattle, Boston, Washington D.C., British Columbia, Ontario, London, Dublin, Zurich, Munich, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Bangalore, alongside a "Remote-Friendly (US)" category that carries a travel requirement. Anthropic Ireland, Limited, registered in Dublin, is the entity named for the European region.
This is a hybrid company with a specific and published rule: "Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices." On remote work it adds: "Most staff are in the Bay Area and come to the office regularly. Some live further away and come in for one week a month."
What is the Anthropic team like?
Anthropic hires deliberately outside the usual pipeline: "We care about what you can do, not where you learned to do it. About half our technical staff had no prior ML experience; about half have PhDs, but plenty of brilliant colleagues never went to college." Teams span research, engineering, product, policy, security, sales and operations, and the company sponsors "visas and green cards for eligible roles."
Work-Life Balance
Anthropic is not a reduced-hours employer — it publishes no four-day-week or compressed-hours policy — but its parental leave is genuinely strong: 22 weeks of paid parental leave, written gender-neutrally with no primary/secondary split. Time off is described as "flexible paid time off and absence policies," and job ads offer "generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues." Note that Anthropic never uses the word "unlimited" about its PTO.
