About S&P Global
What is S&P Global?
S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI) supplies essential intelligence to the world's capital, commodity and automotive markets: credit ratings, S&P Dow Jones Indices (home to the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average), Market Intelligence, Commodity Insights and Mobility. Its own postings put the mission as "Advancing Essential Intelligence" and its values as "Integrity, Discovery, Partnership." The company describes itself as "more than 35,000 strong worldwide."
Where will I work?
From an office, usually a large one. Live roles cluster in New York and London, with substantial hubs in Hyderabad, Gurugram, Noida, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Islamabad, Tokyo, Singapore, Dallas, Gdansk, Mexico City, Toronto, Sao Paulo and Sydney. Some postings are explicit about the arrangement — "This location requires a person to work a hybrid schedule from our Dallas, TX location" — while others attach a standing flexible-working note instead. Worth knowing before you apply: the hiring process is office-anchored, because "we require all external candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global office."
What is the S&P Global team like?
Open roles are almost entirely knowledge work — index and database engineering, quantitative development, ratings analysis, product ownership, information security, editorial, sales and account management — spread across the ratings, indices, Market Intelligence and Commodity Insights businesses. Employee communities the company calls People Resource Groups, including ParentsNet for working parents and caregivers, Reach for people with disabilities and WINS for women, are open to all employees, and confidential Career Coaching is offered "to all people at all levels globally."
Work-Life Balance
The flexible-working position is published rather than implied: "We pride ourselves on our agility and diversity, and we welcome requests to work flexibly. For most roles, flexible hours and/or an element of remote working are usually possible." Time off runs through a programme called Recharge — "S&P Global's flexible time-off approach under which there is no prescribed maximum amount of time off you can take." Note the wording: flexible, with no stated cap, rather than unlimited. Alongside it sit up to 10 days of paid Global Care Leave a year for a seriously ill relative, five paid Give Back Days for volunteering, paid Compassion Leave, and up to eight weeks of unpaid leave. The headline policy is parental leave: 26 weeks paid, or the local statutory minimum if that is higher, for both parents regardless of gender, following birth, adoption, surrogacy or foster placement, with no tenure requirement. It is backed by a written no-contact rule — "People Leaders and others should not contact any colleague who is on an approved long term leave of absence."
