About AFAS Software

What is AFAS Software?

AFAS Software is a Dutch business-software company built on a single idea — "Eén systeem. Eén manier van werken." (one system, one way of working). Rather than reinventing the wheel for every customer, AFAS ships one integrated standard product that organisations configure without programming, spanning ERP, CRM, financial administration, HRM, payroll, order management, projects and workflow management. It is the number-one HRM and payroll software in the Netherlands: more than 14,000 organisations run on AFAS, and roughly 3.8 million Dutch workers receive their payslip through its software every month. Its mission is "inspireert beter ondernemen" — to inspire better entrepreneurship by freeing organisations to spend time on what really matters.

Where will I work?

AFAS does everything from its headquarters in Leusden, the Netherlands — software development, support and more — and roles are hybrid, advertised as "Leusden / Thuis" (Leusden / home). The Leusden "clubhuis" is a destination in its own right: AFAS welcomes around 80,000 guests and colleagues there and even owns the AFAS Theater in Leusden. As a proud sponsor of AZ Alkmaar and the AFAS Live venue, the company's identity is visible well beyond its own campus.

What is the AFAS team like?

AFAS is a family business — in fact a two-family business, fully owned by the Mars and Van der Veldt families since its founding in 1996 — which it credits for long-term thinking, independence and values-led work. It deliberately grows organically and does not buy other companies. Around 700 colleagues work to four core values: "vertrouwen, doen, familie en gek" (trust, do, family, crazy), guided by one simple rule instead of thick policy manuals: work with common sense in AFAS's interest. That trust extends to a famously lean HR function — a single person, Britt, supports the whole workforce because the HR processes themselves run on AFAS software. The company has been named Great Place To Work three years running (2019, 2020, 2021) and "de beste werkgever van Europa" (best employer in Europe), and is a certified B Corp whose CSR policy is fittingly titled "Met liefde" (with love).

Work-Life Balance

AFAS works "32 uur per week, verdeeld over vier dagen" — a 32-hour, four-day week — with the office effectively closed on Fridays. Friday is the "ontwikkeldag" (development day): time to invest in yourself and, especially, in others. The four-day week and Friday development day are stated plainly in AFAS's own job descriptions, underlining a culture that pairs reduced hours with continuous personal growth.

Perks and Benefits

On top of the four-day week, AFAS offers a generous package: "ruime winstdeling" (generous profit-sharing), holiday pay and a 13th-month salary, plenty of room for development through internal and external training, and famously good food — "een goede lunch" in the clubhouse. Company life is social and celebratory, with "fantastische uitjes" (fantastic outings) and access to events at AFAS's own theatre and venues. As a B Corp, AFAS also channels social impact through the AFAS Foundation and its "Met liefde" CSR programme.
