About City of Palmdale
What is the City of Palmdale?
The City of Palmdale is the municipal government of Palmdale, California — an Antelope Valley city of about 169,000 in northern Los Angeles County and the 33rd most populous city in the state. Incorporated in 1962 as the Antelope Valley's first city and a charter city since 2009, Palmdale styles itself the "aerospace capital of the United States" with good reason: USAF Plant 42 hosts Boeing, Northrop Grumman (7,000 local jobs) and Lockheed Martin's famed Skunk Works (3,750), and the region built or tested the Space Shuttle, B-2, B-21 Raider, F-117, F-22 and SR-71. Kinkisharyo even assembled LA Metro's P3010 light-rail cars here.
Where will I work?
Palmdale City Hall at 38300 Sierra Highway. The 4/10 is structural: the city's own contact page reads "Hours: Monday through Thursday: 7:30 am to 6 pm Closed on Friday". Four ten-hour days, every Friday off.
What is the City of Palmdale team like?
Palmdale is a contract city — policing comes from the LA County Sheriff's Department (whose Palmdale station is the county's largest) and fire from the LA County Fire District — so its own workforce is a lean, civilian-focused team concentrated on parks, the Palmdale City Library, planning, engineering and community services, including the Palmdale Playhouse, Dry Town Water Park and the Palmdale Animal Care Center. Recent postings include a City Traffic Engineer and a Director of Finance - Operations.
Work-Life Balance
Every Friday off, structurally — the building is closed. A contract-city staffing model means the roles that remain in-house are disproportionately professional and administrative, exactly the audience for a compressed week.
Perks and Benefits

Note: Palmdale publishes no open benefits page; we list only what the city publishes openly.
