About City of La Verne

What is the City of La Verne?

The City of La Verne is the municipal government of La Verne, California — a Los Angeles County city of about 31,000 at the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Valley, incorporated in 1906 (as the renamed Lordsburg). It is a genuine university town: the University of La Verne was founded here in 1891 as Lordsburg College by German Baptist Brethren. Once the "Heart of the Orange Empire", two heritage orange groves survive at the La Verne Heritage Foundation. Brackett Field airport lies within the city, and since September 2025 the Metro A Line's La Verne/Fairplex station has put the town on LA's light-rail map. For its size, La Verne is unusually full-service, running both its own police and fire departments.

Where will I work?

La Verne City Hall at 3660 "D" Street. The 4/10 is structural: the city's own directory reads "Hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:30am - 5:30pm". Four days on, every Friday off.

What is the City of La Verne team like?

A compact civic team of around 100 across administration, community development, public works and its own safety departments. The civilian job board is small between recruitments — safety roles dominate some months — so saving the company is the way to catch the next professional opening.

Work-Life Balance

Every Friday off, by the building's own hours, in a leafy university town with light rail to downtown LA since the Metro A Line's La Verne/Fairplex station opened in September 2025. Like Montclair, La Verne keeps both police and fire in-house at barely 31,000 residents, so the civilian organisation carries real administrative depth — and the whole of it runs on the Monday-Thursday pattern. For anyone drawn to public service with an academic-town pace, the University of La Verne connection keeps the city's calendar, culture and coffee shops livelier than its size suggests.
