What is the City of Compton?
The City of Compton is the municipal government of Compton, California — a Gateway Cities community of about 95,700 in southern Los Angeles County, and one of the county's oldest cities (in May 1888 it became the eighth city in LA County to incorporate). Known worldwide through its outsized place in music history, the real Compton is a working city government: public works, planning, building and safety, water utility operations, finance and community services, run from the Civic Center on Willowbrook Avenue. The city pitches itself to candidates plainly: "The City of Compton is hiring and looking for passionate, driven individuals who want to serve their community and be part of a city on the rise!"

Compton City Hall, 205 S Willowbrook Ave, in the Civic Center Plaza. The 4/10 is structural: the city's own contact page reads "City Hall office hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday" — an 11-hour window, four days, with no Friday hours at all. Its job adverts say it directly: "4/10 Flexible Work Schedule – Most Administrative roles based at City Hall enjoy a 4-day workweek, with Fridays off" and, in a footnote, "City Hall is closed on Fridays."
