About ZIM Aircraft Seating

What is ZIM Aircraft Seating?

ZIM Aircraft Seating Group designs and manufactures aircraft seats. On its own website it describes itself as "a global designer and manufacturer of Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class seating solutions for commercial airlines". The group is owned by AURELIUS and, according to that page (read on 6 November 2026), employs more than 400 people across three locations in Germany and the United States. It names Boeing and Airbus among the OEMs it supplies, and airlines such as Lufthansa, Air France, Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific among its customers. The company was called ZIM Flugsitz GmbH until March 2021, when it took its current name. Its news page reports revenue of more than 120 million euros for 2025 with a positive result for the year (published 7 April 2026), and on 27 October 2026 it announced more production capacity at its Markdorf site to serve rising demand.

Where will I work?

The registered office and headquarters are in Immenstaad on Lake Constance (Baden-Württemberg), at Graf-von-Soden-Straße 1, where the company moved its headquarters and engineering department in 2021; its own announcement describes the building as directly opposite the Airbus plant. Manufacturing and production are in Markdorf, and the group also has a site in Greensboro, North Carolina. The office-based adverts on the board are placed in Immenstaad and Markdorf, while the EMEA sales roles say the job is based in Germany and can be performed remotely with regular visits to the Markdorf office. The benefits page lists mobile working among its work-life benefits without stating a number of days, and it says the benefits vary by role and type of employment, so read the advert for the role you want. ZIM also advertises assembly, warehouse, quality-inspection and apprenticeship roles; those are shop-floor jobs and are not listed here.

What is the ZIM Aircraft Seating team like?

The four German-language adverts describe a mid-sized company with an international working environment, multinational teams and varied tasks, with short decision paths, an open-door policy and flat hierarchies. The benefits page adds an informal first-name culture ("Du-Kultur mit flachen Hierarchien"), regular employee conversations, a comprehensive onboarding programme and company events. The company lists six values: integrity, diligence, flexibility, personal responsibility, quality and customer orientation. Adverts on the board come from several office functions: customer support and project management, IT, engineering, sales and program management. Language needs vary by role: the aftermarket project manager advert asks for very good German and English, while the EMEA sales adverts ask for business-level English with German as a plus.

Work-Life Balance

ZIM states its working-time model on the careers page: "Mit einer 38-Stunden-Woche, einer unbefristeten Festanstellung und der Möglichkeit, jeden zweiten Freitag freizuhaben" (English: with a 38-hour week, a permanent contract and the option of having every second Friday off). The English sales adverts put it this way: "Weekly working time of 38 hours. Innovative time model that allows us to work a 4-day week in a two-week cycle." The same wording appears in German in the adverts for project management, IT, engineering and program management roles. Read together, that points to a rotating pattern: the option of Fridays off in every second week, so a four-day week alternates with a five-day week, at a stated 38 hours a week (two of the German adverts call it a "durchschnittliche wöchentliche Arbeitszeit", an average weekly working time). The split of hours between the two weeks is not stated. On top of that the benefits page lists a flexible working time model without core working hours, mobile working, time off for special occasions and 30 days of vacation.
