What is Yugabyte?
Yugabyte makes YugabyteDB, "a PostgreSQL-compatible distributed database purpose-built for modern, cloud-native applications". The database is open source and free to download, and Yugabyte also runs it as YugabyteDB Aeon, a cloud database it manages for customers, with tooling such as YugabyteDB Voyager to "Move your data from other databases". Newer products push it towards AI workloads: YugabyteDB AMP, "The database for every stage of your agent lifecycle", and Meko, "The multi-agent data layer". Yugabyte lists financial services, retail and eCommerce, telecommunications, and gaming and betting among the industries it serves.
"Yugabyte was founded by three former Facebook engineers: Kannan Muthukkaruppan, Karthik Ranganathan, and Mikhail Bautin." The founders have a track record in building and operating distributed databases, including Cassandra and HBase, and "In February 2016, the founders started building YugabyteDB". The project has a large developer community — its Slack alone has 10,000+ members.
Where will I work?
Yugabyte has offices in Sunnyvale (headquarters), Singapore, Bangalore, Pune and Tokyo, and offers three work models: in-office ("3-5 days a week"), fully remote, and flexible, where employees "work from shared desks at a designated office one or two days a week". US postings describe the hybrid model directly: "We work in a hybrid model, with the team together in our Sunnyvale office 2–3 days per week." Engineering and sales are distributed globally to provide follow-the-sun support.
What is the Yugabyte team like?
Employees call themselves Yugabeings. The company's values start with trust — "We build trust through humility, integrity, and transparency" — followed by long-lasting relationships and a focus on outcomes. It feels "strongly about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one way to help achieve that", and its US postings publish the pay range for the role. Headcount is around 440 across the five offices.
Work-Life Balance
Yugabyte's US job postings list "unlimited paid time off (PTO)" alongside health and retirement plans, and its careers page lists unlimited PTO and bi-annual wellness days among company benefits. The wording does not appear on its India postings, so we only list Yugabyte roles whose own advert carries it. This is a full-time, hybrid week — the perk is uncapped leave rather than reduced hours.
