About Tiko

What is Tiko?

Tiko is a non-profit that builds healthcare ecosystems for adolescent girls in sub-Saharan Africa. Its About page says "Tiko is an African non-profit organization partnering with governments, health providers, and local community-based organizations to reimagine healthcare systems for adolescent girls across sub-Saharan Africa." and "Since 2014, Tiko set out to revolutionise the social impact sector". The home page adds "Supporting African Youth Since 2014", and the annual-reports page still carries the earlier name in "Welcome to the Triggerise 2022 Annual Report", the job board still sits under the triggerise name on BambooHR and triggerise.org redirects to tiko.org. The About page says "Today, we connect more than a million girls annually to free contraception and HIV prevention and treatment through our tech-driven ecosystem approach." The platform links mobilisers, community-based organizations, health providers and retailers.

Where will I work?

The Our team page says "We are an African organization headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa", with "satellite support offices in Portugal, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom", and the Contact page lists "Tiko Africa – Headquarters Workshop17 Watershed 17 Dock Rd, V&A Waterfront Cape Town 8002, South Africa" plus Amsterdam and Porto. The adverts say Tiko "operates in six countries: Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, South Africa, and Nigeria". The board held 14 adverts on 6 November 2026: South Africa 4, Portugal 2, Ethiopia 3, Kenya 2, Nigeria 2 and one open application. Some technology and finance roles can be done remotely (the Analytics Engineering Lead advert says "We are open to remote work for this position and will happily accept applicants from anywhere in Portugal, Kenya and South Africa.", the Controller Team Lead advert accepts applicants "from anywhere in Portugal" and the IT Support Officer advert "from Nigeria"), while the programme roles are district-based: the South Africa Ecosystem Coordinator advert says "You are currently based in Ekurhuleni or Tshwane (mandatory)." and the team will "visit ecosystems across the district to do regular in-person checkups with actors".

What is the Tiko team like?

The careers page describes "a team of passionate, open-minded professionals from different cultures and backgrounds, united around a shared vision to transform adolescent girls’ futures on the African continent." Its four values are "We Are Open", "We Do", "We Pioneer" and "We Are Impact-Driven", and the adverts call the working environment "fast-paced, informal, and friendly". The Our team page says "Our team of more than 200 dedicated staff works in-person and virtually across Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda", while 12 of the 14 adverts quote "+250" colleagues (two say "+230"). The open roles are analytics engineering, mobile engineering, a Deputy CTO, a data product owner, an IT support officer, a controller team lead in Lisbon, and programme roles (Ecosystem Coordinator, Ecosystem Trainer and Service Quality Officer) in South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya. The Analytics Engineering Lead process is an introductory recruiter call, a first interview with the tech team, a technical challenge and a final interview with the tech team.

Work-Life Balance

The careers page states the policy for everyone: "In addition to your salary and local benefits, all our people enjoy unlimited leave and a personal development budget." Twelve of the 13 live vacancies on 6 November 2026 repeat it in their benefits list: "Unlimited holiday days to use as you see fit - just coordinate with your team and take the time you need to recharge." That covers technology, finance and programme roles in Portugal, South Africa, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya. Eight of those lists add "Flexible work arrangements, including remote or hybrid options." (the Controller Team Lead list says "including hybrid options" and three programme adverts have no such line), and all of them add "A culture built on trust - we believe you’ll do your best without the need for unnecessary rules or micromanagement". No number of days, public-holiday terms, core hours or weekly hours are stated, and Glassdoor could not be read, so the work-life reputation is unchecked.
