What is TigerData?
TigerData is the company behind TimescaleDB, the open-source time-series database built on PostgreSQL — and, under its new name (the company rebranded from Timescale in 2026), a broader Postgres data platform for workloads "from devices to distributed systems to AI". Its extensions power metrics, IoT, financial and real-time analytics workloads for tens of thousands of teams, and the company has raised roughly $180M from investors including Benchmark, NEA and Tiger Global. The engineering culture is unusually public: TigerData's deep technical blog posts about Postgres internals are standard reading in the database community, and open source sits "at our core" in the company's own words.
Where will I work?
Anywhere: TigerData is remote-first with genuinely global hiring — current adverts span the US, Europe and India, most simply marked "Remote". In the company's words: "Remote at Tiger Data means communicating with purpose, taking ownership, and delivering results. We work across time zones [and] collaborate asynchronously." Global offsites and meetups bring the team together in person.
What is the TigerData team like?
Around 150 people, engineering-led, headquartered on paper in New York but distributed in practice. The reviews are excellent where it counts for this site: Glassdoor shows a 4.6 work-life-balance rating across 48 reviews with 88% recommending and culture rated 4.5 — among the strongest scores of any database company we list. Many adverts publish their salary ranges, and hiring spans engineering, product, developer advocacy and go-to-market.
Work-Life Balance
Every advert the company runs — all nineteen of them — carries the same line in its benefits block: "Fridays off in August 😎". The careers page lists it as a standing benefit ("August Fridays off"), alongside an end-of-year company shutdown: the whole company steps away together in late December and gets a month of four-day weeks at the height of summer.
