About Sourcegraph
What is Sourcegraph?
Sourcegraph builds code intelligence for large, complex codebases. Its mission, stated on the careers page, is "to bring clarity and control to the world's most complex codebases" — helping teams "deeply understand and evolve their code in a world of constant change." The platform spans Code Search for navigating sprawling repositories, Deep Search (agentic, natural-language AI search), Batch Changes for large-scale cross-repository edits, Insights for code metrics, an MCP server that exposes code-graph knowledge to AI agents, and a CLI.
Increasingly, Sourcegraph is building for a world where humans and coding agents share a workflow: roles call for experience "shipping products consumed by or built for AI agents (MCP servers, agent SDKs, agentic dev tooling, agent-friendly CLIs)." Its public code search already indexes more than one million open-source repositories. Sourcegraph has been remote-first since its early days and runs an unusually transparent, handbook-driven operation.
Where will I work?
Sourcegraph is "a global, all-remote team" — every open role is posted as Remote, and you have "the flexibility to work and live anywhere in the world" unless a role specifies otherwise. To stay connected, the company runs Merge, a twice-a-year onsite where the team aligns and builds trust; past Merges have been held in Amsterdam, Montreal, Cancun, and Rome. Async-first communication is a core expectation.
What is the Sourcegraph team like?
Four values guide the team: "being direct and transparent" (candid feedback and disagree-and-commit), "winning together," "high-agency" ownership of outcomes, and "customer love" (working backward from customers' real problems). Compensation is deliberately transparent — ranges are "visible to every single Sourcegraph teammate," and the company targets the high end of market data "regardless of where you live in the world," never factoring in your past salary. The interview process runs in three stages (introduction, team, and final), and the team describes itself as "ambitious… working hard to build the most influential company in the world."
Work-Life Balance
Sourcegraph offers Unlimited PTO with a 30-day minimum — the company genuinely requires people to take meaningful time off rather than leaving it optional. A wellness stipend ("take care of yourself on our dime") and generous travel budgets to meet teammates round out a benefits philosophy that, in the company's words, invests "in every part of your life, not just your work."
