About Sierra
What is Sierra?
Sierra is building a platform that helps businesses create better, more human customer experiences with AI. Its conversational AI agents work at the front line of customer interactions — answering questions, taking actions and resolving issues for leading global brands — combining frontier AI research with a focus on real-world business impact. Customers featured by the company include Clear and Minted.
Sierra was co-founded by Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor, who first met while working together at Google. Bret currently serves as Board Chair of OpenAI and was previously co-CEO of Salesforce and CTO of Facebook, and was one of Google's earliest product managers and a co-creator of Google Maps. Clay spent 18 years at Google, most recently leading Google Labs, and earlier started and led Google's AR/VR effort, Project Starline, and Google Lens. The platform is built to enterprise standards — its payments capability, for example, is PCI DSS Level 1 and listed on Visa's Global Registry.
Where will I work?
Sierra is primarily an in-person company based in San Francisco, with growing offices in New York, Atlanta, London, Singapore, Tokyo, Paris, Madrid and Toronto. The team spends most of its time collaborating in person, in the belief that working side by side helps them move faster and build stronger relationships, while trusting people to work from home when life or focus demands it. Because the company works in person, interviews take place at one of its offices.
What is the Sierra team like?
Sierra describes itself as a passionate, mission-driven team that values diversity of thought, background and experience. Its work and culture are anchored by five values: Trust (accountability, empathy, quality and responsiveness with customers and each other); Customer Obsession (everyone knows and spends time with customers, and drops everything to fix an issue); Craftsmanship (getting the details right, with good taste, from the words on the page to the system architecture); Intensity (playing to win and fixing the product when it isn't the best); and Family — the belief that "balance and intensity are compatible," with an explicit goal of being the best technology company for parents.
Work-Life Balance
Full-time employees get flexible (unlimited) paid time off. The Family value is reflected in concrete benefits: generous parental leave and fertility and family-building support through Carrot. Sierra frames balance and intensity as compatible and aims to be the best technology company for parents.
