About Resend

What is Resend?

Resend is a developer-first email platform: an API for transactional and marketing email, the open-source React Email template library, webhooks for delivery events, and the deliverability infrastructure behind them. The origin story is in its public handbook: "Bu and I were using multiple email tools, but they all felt outdated, slow, and built for marketers, not developers... So, we started playing with the idea of building the 'Stripe of Email' as a side project." Zeno Rocha and Bu Kinoshita shipped an MVP in September 2022, joined Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch, and "Resend was incorporated in January 2023," raising a $3m seed round that April.

Where will I work?

Anywhere you already are. "Resend is a remote company. There are no plans for this, but even if there are some local offices in the future, the core operations of the company will always facilitate remote work because we believe in it as a way of working." There is no office to commute to; the San Francisco address is a mailing address. Teammates are listed in the US, Brazil, Canada, Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands and South Africa, and open roles are posted as "Americas / Remote" or "Europe / Remote." The one fixed expectation is overlap: "Generally, 14:00-18:00 UTC is when the entire team has overlap so we ask all team members to aim to be available for synchronous work during this period."

What is the Resend team like?

"We're a team of 47 makers who believes in building great software that inspires others." Working principles are written down rather than implied: curiosity over ego ("Ask before you tell. Be the last to speak"), challenge the status quo, default to action ("If you spot a bug or typo, just open a PR with the fix"), show when possible, and everything requires iteration — "performance is measured more by how well feedback is requested and incorporated, than by how good our work is on the first attempt." Communication is deliberately async: RFCs, Linear tickets and prefixed Slack channels instead of standing meetings.

Work-Life Balance

Wednesdays are protected. "To promote focus and deep work, no meetings should be held on Wednesday across the entire company," partly because the team spans nine time zones and "removing one day of meetings alleviates some of the pressure this puts on our personal lives." Beyond that, "we don't expect work in the evenings or on weekends in addition to your standard day." Time off is published as fixed amounts, not left vague: 20 PTO days a year ("Take time off for whatever reason you want. No work allowed"), unlimited sick days, 10 holidays a year, and 12 weeks of family leave.
