About Rel
What is Rel?
Rel is the Dutch home-sustainability company behind the Regionaal Energieloket (REL) municipal energy desks. Its careers site says "We werken in opdracht van meer dan 100 gemeenten" (we work on behalf of more than 100 municipalities) and that it helps "tienduizenden huishoudens met verduurzamen" (tens of thousands of households make their homes more sustainable) each year, through the energy desk website and customer service, insulation projects and energy fixers who visit people on a small budget. The mission is "Een duurzaam thuis voor iedereen" (a sustainable home for everyone). Rel's own about page says it was started by three friends in 2014 ("In 2014 is Rel door drie vrienden gestart"), while Dutch Wikipedia traces the group's origin to the online platform Bleeve, started around 2015 and later renamed GreenHome; today REL Groep holds GreenHome and Regionaal Energieloket, and the recruiting account on the ATS is still named bleeve. Rel is steward-owned: its steward-ownership page says "Missie is voor altijd de baas" (the mission is always the boss) and calls the model "een soort juridisch slot op de deur" (a kind of legal lock on the door). Corporate Rebels describes the organisation as having "around 200 employees".
Where will I work?
The head office is at Willem Landréstraat 2 in Amsterdam, "5 Minuten lopen vanaf station Amsterdam Zuid" (a five-minute walk from Amsterdam Zuid station). Dutch Wikipedia lists branches in Groningen, Almere, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Breda, and the board also has roles in Amersfoort and Zevenaar. Office roles are hybrid only after the first year: the adverts say "Hybride werken ná je eerste jaar" (hybrid working after your first year) and usually start with at most one home-working day a week. On 6 November 2026 the Recruitee board listed 13 adverts, all in the Netherlands and all written in Dutch. Eight are field, home-visit or contact-centre roles (energy coaches, energy fixers, a heating specialist, a home adviser, a customer-contact role and a phone adviser) and are left out here; five are office roles in marketing, finance, project management and municipal relationship management.
What is the Rel team like?
Rel runs as a self-managing organisation: "Bij Rel werken we zelfsturend; beslissingsbevoegdheid is verdeeld over alle collega's" (at Rel we work self-managing; decision-making power is shared across all colleagues). The adverts add "Vier Rel-brede strategiedagen per jaar" (four company-wide strategy days a year), a personal Rel coach, a monthly Rel Academy training and weekly reflection through a 15Five tool. Corporate Rebels has written about the pairing of self-management and steward ownership at Rel. The careers site invites readers to check anonymous Glassdoor reviews, but Glassdoor returned a security block on 6 November 2026, so the culture described here comes from Rel's own pages and adverts and has not been checked against outside reviews.
Work-Life Balance
The office adverts state "Onbeperkte vakantiedagen met ‘fair use policy’" (unlimited holiday days with a fair use policy), and the general benefits list on the vacancies page includes "Onbeperkt vakantiedagen" (unlimited holiday days); four of the eight field and contact-centre adverts do not repeat it. The five office adverts add "Flexibele feestdagen. Je mag nationale feestdagen inzetten naar eigen wens." (flexible public holidays: you may use national holidays as you wish). Parental leave is described as "100% doorbetaald ouderschapsverlof" (100% paid parental leave), with the number of weeks not stated. Hours are not rigid on paper: salary ranges are quoted "op basis van 40 uur" (on a 40-hour basis) while three adverts ask candidates to state availability of 32, 36 or 40 hours a week, but Rel does not publish a reduced-hours policy. The company's own pages are the only evidence for work-life balance, because the Glassdoor page could not be read.
