What is Panthalassa?
Panthalassa is a public-benefit corporation building a planetary-scale energy platform that's clean, sustainable, and low-cost. Founded in 2021 in Portland, Oregon, the company designs autonomous self-propelled nodes that capture wave energy in the open ocean and use it to generate clean electricity and run AI computing onboard, with data transmitted by low-Earth-orbit satellites.
In May 2026 Panthalassa announced a $140M Series B led by Peter Thiel, with participation from John Doerr and Marc Benioff's TIME Ventures, to complete a pilot manufacturing facility near Portland and accelerate deployment of the Ocean-3 series of nodes.

HQ in Portland, Oregon (manufacturing facility nearby). Most engineering, product and operations roles are based in or around Portland.
What is the Panthalassa team like?
Approximately 75 employees across structural / mechanical / fluids engineering, fleet operations, software, and design. The hiring page emphasises ownership, autonomy, and being able to work intermittent longer hours and weekends to support critical needs in exchange for unlimited PTO and flexible working hours.
