What is Onehouse?
Onehouse describes itself as "a fast, open data lakehouse that runs in your own cloud account", running ingestion, ETL and interactive queries across Apache Hudi, Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake on the customer's own Kubernetes, "with data that never leaves your account." The About page says the team "created Apache Hudi and Apache XTable" and "ran planet-scale data infrastructure at LinkedIn and Uber, and built the first data lakehouse at Uber." The founder and CEO, Vinoth Chandar, is "the original creator and PMC chair of Apache Hudi". Its job postings say the company is "Riding off a fresh $35M Series B backed by Craft, Greylock and Addition Ventures" at "$68M total funding", and call it "a mission-driven company dedicated to freeing data from data platform lock-in."
Where will I work?
The postings say "we are a remote-friendly company (internationally distributed across N. America + India), though some roles will be subject to in-person requirements in alignment with the needs of the business." On the Lever board, five roles are India-Remote, five are hybrid at the Sunnyvale, California headquarters, and one, the Chief of Staff, is "an in person role, 4 days a week at our company headquarters in Sunnyvale, CA." The US benefits list adds "Annual company offsites and Quarterly team onsites @Sunnyvale HQ."
What is the Onehouse team like?
The postings call it "a team of self-driven, inspired, and seasoned builders" with backgrounds at Uber, Snowflake, AWS, LinkedIn and Confluent, and the engineering team "serves as the bridge between the worlds of open source and enterprise", contributing directly to Apache Hudi. Five house values are published: One Team ("Optimize for the company, your team, self - in that order"), Tough & Persevering ("Always day one!"), Keep Making It Better Always, Think Big, Act Fast, and Be Customer Obsessed. The tone is hard-driving, since the values talk of "a very large, fast-growing but highly competitive space" and of fighting "long and hard in the trenches", alongside a call to "take care of your co-workers with empathy."
Work-Life Balance
Time off is "unlimited PTO (mandatory 1 week/year minimum), uncapped sick days and 11 paid company holidays" for US roles, and 17 paid company holidays for India roles. The mandatory minimum is a stated floor of one week a year, which is unusual for an unlimited policy. Parental leave is generous: US roles get "8 weeks off for parents (birthing, non-birthing, adoptive, foster, child placement, new guardianship) - fully paid", and the India postings give "26 weeks off for birthing and 12 weeks for surrogate and adoptive parents - fully paid."
