About Murmuration
What is Murmuration?
Murmuration is a civic-technology nonprofit working to strengthen American democracy by helping organisations build power in their communities. It does this in four ways: organising a network of values-aligned partners; providing deep, data-driven insights into people, places and perspectives; developing tools that make organising and engagement easier and more effective; and offering services that grow partners' capacity to lead change. Its Campaigns team pairs "deep campaign expertise with the most advanced civic data infrastructure," providing high-impact consulting and services to local organisations closest to the problems they're solving.
Founded in 2014, Murmuration is actually two organisations working together: Murmuration Research Institute, a 501(c)(3) that conducts research to build the data, tools and insights communities need; and Murmuration, Inc., a 501(c)(4) that puts those resources to work with partners across the country. Its vision is "an America where every community has what it needs to help people lead healthy, free, and dignified lives."
Where will I work?
Murmuration is remote-first: "you can live and work anywhere in the U.S." The New York City office serves as a central hub where the team comes together to collaborate and build relationships, but day-to-day work is distributed nationwide. All current roles are US-based and remote.
What is the Murmuration team like?
Murmuration is "a collaborative, curious, and creative team of organizers, scientists, teachers, technologists, campaign veterans, and more," united by the belief that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts — so they "support each other relentlessly." The organisation runs an explicit "culture of care" that prioritises team well-being, and embeds diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into everything: a DEIB steering committee guides the work, and DEIB participation is a core responsibility written into every single job description.
