What is Merck?

Merck (known as MSD outside the US and Canada) is one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, headquartered in Rahway, New Jersey. Founded in 1891, Merck has annual revenue of over $60B and a market cap of ~$300B (NASDAQ: MRK). The company develops and markets medicines, vaccines, biologic therapies, and animal health products — landmark franchises include Keytruda (immuno-oncology), Gardasil (HPV vaccine), Januvia (diabetes), and a long history of vaccine pioneering (MMR, varicella, hepatitis B).

Merck's mission is to discover, develop, and provide innovative products and services that save and improve lives around the world. R&D spend exceeds $13B/year, with major therapeutic areas in oncology, vaccines, infectious disease, immunology, neuroscience, and cardiometabolic disorders.

Where will I work?

Merck operates major US sites in Rahway, NJ (corporate HQ + R&D), West Point, PA (vaccines), Durham, NC, Boston/Cambridge, MA (research), and various manufacturing campuses (Elkton VA, Las Piedras PR, etc.). The company supports hybrid working for most office-based roles. Lab, clinical, and manufacturing roles are largely on-site.
