About Lightning AI
What is Lightning AI?
Lightning AI is the company behind PyTorch Lightning, the open-source framework that strips boilerplate out of deep-learning training loops. Its job ads describe the business as it stands today: "Founded in 2019, we build an end-to-end platform for developing, training, and deploying AI systems - designed to take ideas from research to production with less friction."
The company has since changed shape. "Through our merger with Voltage Park, a neocloud and AI Factory, Lightning AI combines developer-first software with cost-efficient, large-scale compute." Its own announcement calls the deal a move to "build a vertically integrated, AI-native cloud - combining AI software and owned GPU infrastructure in one platform". It serves "solo researchers, startups, and large enterprises", backed by Coatue, Index Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures and Firstminute.
Where will I work?
"Lightning AI operates globally with offices in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, and London." Hub roles are hybrid, "based in one of our hubs (NYC, SF, Seattle, or London), with a minimum of 2 in-office days per week and occasional team and company offsites."
The Voltage Park side added on-site data-centre and network-operations roles in Illinois, Texas and Washington, alongside fully remote positions and APAC roles in Singapore and the Philippines. Shift work and on-call rotations are stated up front in the listing.
What is the Lightning AI team like?
Every ad sets out how the company works: "The people who thrive here are builders who move fast, communicate openly, take ownership, and continuously improve themselves, their teams, and our company." The stated behaviours are Move with Urgency ("We value action over perfection and learn by shipping"), Take Ownership, Communicate Openly, Build Great Teams, Raise the Bar and Think Long-Term. Teams cover platform and research engineering, GPU and storage infrastructure, developer support, design and go-to-market. US and UK listings publish a base salary range, and total rewards for eligible roles include "a discretionary bonus, a meaningful equity component, and comprehensive benefits."
Work-Life Balance
Time off is stated identically on all 41 live listings: "Flexible Time Off: Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and floating holidays to support work-life balance." Unlimited PTO sits on top of company and floating holidays rather than replacing them.
Two further policies do what unlimited policies often fail to. A "Company-Wide Winter Break: Two weeks of company closure each winter to disconnect and recharge" makes rest collective rather than something you negotiate, alongside a "Sabbatical Program: Four weeks of paid sabbatical leave after four years of service." Day to day, Lightning AI offers "Flexible schedules and a hybrid work model for our office-based teams", meals at its office hubs and a work-from-home stipend. No listing advertises a four-day or compressed week.
