About IFF

What is IFF?

IFF "is a mission-driven lender, developer, and consultant that helps communities thrive." "Grounded in equity and deep sector expertise, IFF champions nonprofits to shape more equitable and vibrant communities through community-centered lending, development, and real estate consulting." It was founded in 1988 as the Illinois Facilities Fund and took the name IFF in 2007, after expanding beyond Illinois; the letters "no longer stand for specific words."

"Since 1988, IFF has deployed more than $1.8 billion in capital, working with our partners to strengthen nonprofits, support institutional funders and investors, and help Midwestern communities thrive." It makes "loans from $10,000 to $6.5 million+", its Real Estate Solutions team offers consulting, development and ownership, and its research and policy work supports the sectors it serves. IFF is a CDFI certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and "one of only a few nationally to hold the top-ranked Aeris four-star rating for impact management and AAA rating for financial strength and performance."

Where will I work?

In a hybrid week, at its Chicago headquarters or one of its regional offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Milwaukee and St. Louis. Its postings set the pattern: "In office: T/W | WFH: M/Th/F". IFF does not offer fully remote roles. In October 2026 it is hiring a vice president of credit ($175,000–$227,000 in Chicago, Detroit and Milwaukee), a general counsel ($210,000–$274,000), a senior project manager in Kansas City ($92,000–$112,000) and owner's representatives in Chicago ($75,000–$96,000, or $95,000–$122,000 at the senior grade).

What is the IFF team like?

"We seek resourceful, passionate, and community-minded individuals who want to combine business skills with social impact," its careers page says. IFF commits to being "an inclusive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive institution that honors communities as asset-rich and as experts in their own stories", and its core values are to prioritize equity, respect partnerships, balance tensions and "STEWARD with Heart". Staff have affinity groups, a mentoring program and a professional development stipend.

Work-Life Balance

IFF's careers page lists "Summer Fridays", "Sabbatical leave" and a "Generous paid time off policy", and every posting lists Summer Fridays under its work-life balance benefits. No source says which weeks the summer Fridays run, whether they are full or half days, or how many days of paid time off staff get. Fridays are already work-from-home days in the hybrid week. The postings also note "occasional early start or extended hours and evening or weekend work".
