What is Gladstone Regional Council?
Gladstone Regional Council is the local government for the Gladstone Region in Central Queensland, describing its role as balancing "the region's lifestyle and opportunities for the 63,000 residents which call the region home". Council characterises the area as "an attractive and growing region filled with a friendly and diverse community — mixing rural farming areas, scenic beachside towns and one of Queensland's most significant industrial powerhouses". Its pitch to candidates is direct: "Discover a fulfilling career at Gladstone Regional Council, where your dedication to community service merges with our commitment to improving residents' lives."
Where will I work?
Roles sit across the region rather than in a single head office. Live vacancies are based at the Calliope Office and Calliope Depot, the Lyons Street Depot in Gladstone, the Gladstone Entertainment and Convention Centre, and teams working out of Tannum Sands. Council also runs libraries at Gladstone, Calliope, Boyne Island and Agnes Water, the Tondoon Botanic Gardens, and the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum. The nine-day fortnight shows up directly in live adverts, where permanent office roles carry the line "Permanent Full Time, 9-day fortnight" — the wording on both the Team Leader Administration and Senior Engineer (Civil) postings. It is not universal: the Road Maintenance Performance Contract Team Leader advert offers "a stable permanent role with strong work-life balance" without naming a fortnight pattern, and some field roles are advertised part-time, including "one week on, one week off".
