About Fairchild Imaging

What is Fairchild Imaging?

Fairchild Imaging is a San Jose image-sensor company. Its About page calls it "a specialty image sensor design and manufacturing company with deep experience in developing leading edge performance CMOS image sensors", and says "Today, Fairchild Imaging is an independent US entity that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hamamatsu Photonics". Its story starts with the camera work of Sherman Fairchild: "More than 100 years ago, American scientist and industrialist Sherman Fairchild invented and developed a novel camera shutter/lens system and associated timing mechanism that enabled accurate aerial photography for the first time". The sensors it sells are used in "space exploration, medical x-ray, sciences, quantum computing, machine vision, low light, and 360 situational awareness".

Where will I work?

All four postings on its Greenhouse board (read 2026-10-17) are in San Jose, California, at 1841 Zanker Road, which its contact page gives as its address. Its careers page offers "9/80 (every other Friday off) and hybrid work schedules", and the Director of Finance & Controller posting says "This position is Hybrid, which requires a blend of onsite and a remote working schedule". The two Manufacturing Engineer postings and the Senior Hardware Design Engineer posting do not state an arrangement, so ask before assuming they are hybrid.

What is the Fairchild Imaging team like?

Its careers page says "Fairchild Imaging is all about innovation. We're doers, problem solvers, and explorers", with "unwavering commitments to design leadership, our customers, and our teams". The roles are senior: the finance posting is for "a key financial partner to the CFO and executive leadership of our U.S. technology manufacturing business, a subsidiary of a multinational organization" and asks for a "Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience". The other openings are two Manufacturing Engineer / Senior Manufacturing Engineer roles and a Senior Hardware Design Engineer.

Work-Life Balance

Fairchild Imaging works a 9/80 schedule, the arrangement we list as a nine-day fortnight: eighty hours are worked over nine days, which leaves every other Friday free. Its careers page lists "Work/Life balance through our 9/80 (every other Friday off) and hybrid work schedules", and all four postings repeat "9/80 Schedule - You get every other Friday off!" among their benefits. A 9/80 does not shorten the fortnight, so this is a fixed day off rather than fewer hours. The postings also promise "Generous Paid Time Off, Company Holidays, and additional Floating Holidays" without giving a number of days, so ask for the allowance when you apply.

Perks and Benefits

Its careers page lists "Healthcare & Life Insurance for individuals and families, with no waiting period" and "Health Savings & 401(k)" with a company match, and its postings add "Medical, Dental and Vision coverage with multiple plan offerings", "Health Savings Account with an employer contribution annually", "401(k) retirement plans with Employer matching" and "Tuition Reimbursement". The postings state their pay: "The base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $190,000" for a Manufacturing Engineer, "$180,000 to $200,000" for the Senior Hardware Design Engineer and "$230,000 to $250,000" for the Director of Finance & Controller, who is also "eligible to participate in the Company's annual incentive bonus program".
