About Directive
What is Directive?
Directive Consulting is a B2B performance-marketing agency that positions itself as the leading agency for companies "optimized for metrics that don't move the business." Founded in 2014 and led by Managing Partner and Co-Founder Garrett Mehrguth, Directive brings more than a decade of experience and says it has worked with over 420 B2B brands. Its proprietary methodology, DiscoverabilityOS, is built to align brand and demand so a client's ideal customer chooses them at every decision point — what the agency calls "Customer Generation" rather than simple lead generation.
The business runs through three divisions — Performance, Communications and Commerce — designed to share intelligence and align around revenue, spanning paid media, SEO and content, paid social, PR, marketplace and lifecycle marketing. Directive treats research as a differentiator, saying it spends $2.2M a year on R&D to test tactics before recommending them, and it remains independent rather than part of a media conglomerate.
Where will I work?
Directive is a remote-first company built around a home-office setup, collaborating primarily through Zoom and Slack, with an Irvine, California base. For roles posted as such, it accommodates candidates in established markets including Canada, Mexico and the UK, where applicants must hold current work authorisation and reside in that country. The team gathers for an in-person event once a year.
What is the Directive team like?
Directive has grown from fewer than 50 marketing experts in 2021 to over 100 employees across the globe. The company describes its people as self-starters, agile learners and "brilliant risk-takers driven by results" who are passionate about their craft — and notes that fans of dogs, gaming and good-natured hot takes fit right in. New hires go through a hands-on, structured multi-week onboarding with mock client assignments, a lead trainer, a shadow buddy and subject-matter-expert coaching, so they build confidence before working with real clients. Values include "embrace reality, don't manipulate it," transparency as the default, and "ownership breeds excellence."
Work-Life Balance
Directive offers unlimited PTO with a required minimum of two weeks per year, plus your birthday guaranteed off, and it closes its offices from December 24th to January 1st for an "End of Year Recharge." Paid parental leave is included. Wellbeing is well covered: certified therapists through Spring Health and a Headspace membership for mental health, and Omada physical therapy, Aaptiv workouts and a complimentary One Medical membership for physical care.
