About Counterpart
What is Counterpart?
Counterpart is the management- and professional-liability insurtech for small businesses: directors & officers, employment practices, fiduciary and professional liability, underwritten with AI-assisted risk models and delivered through brokers at a speed the legacy E&S market can't match. Beyond policies, Counterpart gives insureds proactive risk-management help — the thesis is preventing claims, not just paying them. Founded in 2019 and backed by ~$116M through Series C (investors include Valor, Susa and insurers like Markel), Counterpart works with some of the industry's biggest capacity providers. Its underwriting thesis is unusually aligned with employees too: the company argues that well-run workplaces generate fewer employment-practices claims, and it sells tools to help insureds BE well-run — a business whose incentives point at healthy management rather than against it.
Where will I work?
Anywhere in the US — because there is nowhere else: "Counterpart is a fully distributed company, meaning there is no office. We allow employees to work from wherever they do their best work, and invite the team to meet in person a couple times per year."
What is the Counterpart team like?
Around 140 people across underwriting, claims, engineering, risk and product operations. Glassdoor's small sample (18 reviews) reads well: work-life balance 3.7, with reviewers noting "work-life balance is real" and that people are "trusted to manage their own time like an adult." Claims and underwriting roles here are desk-based professional work — the company partners with established carriers for capacity, so the team focuses on judgment, models and broker relationships rather than field adjusting.
Work-Life Balance
The benefits block leads with the literal heading, in six of eleven adverts across five different functions: "Unlimited Vacation: We offer flexible time off, allowing you to take time when you need it." (One LATAM-scoped engineering role runs a different regional package and isn't part of our feed.)
