About City of Tracy

What is the City of Tracy?

The City of Tracy is the municipal government of Tracy, California — the second-most populous city in San Joaquin County, estimated at about 101,900 residents in 2025 and one of the Central Valley's fastest-growing commuter cities, sitting inside the triangle formed by Interstates 205, 5 and 580. Incorporated in 1910 as a railroad town, Tracy today serves a booming logistics and residential corridor on the eastern edge of the Bay Area megaregion. Its finance team is unusually decorated for a city this size — the budget has won the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for over 20 straight years.

Where will I work?

Tracy City Hall, 333 Civic Center Plaza. The 9/80 is structural: the city's own contact page reads "Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 6:00pm / Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm / Closed alternate Fridays. Check our City Calendar for closed dates." Every other week is a four-day week for civic staff, with the closed-Friday dates published on the city calendar.

What is the City of Tracy team like?

Around 550 employees across engineering, planning, finance, parks, utilities and administration. Recent civilian postings include a Senior Civil Engineer, an Associate Civil Engineer, an Assistant/Associate Planner and a Parks Planning & Development Manager. We list the city's civilian professional roles; sworn and dispatch classifications run separate rosters and are excluded from our feed.

Work-Life Balance

Every other Friday off, by the building's own hours. The city's benefits page adds a genuinely unusual wellness twist: "Employees can also earn additional paid time off by participating in qualifying fitness activities."
