What is CARFAX?

CARFAX is North America's leading provider of vehicle history reports and automotive data services, helping consumers, dealers, and businesses make informed decisions when buying, selling, or servicing used cars. Founded in 1984 in Columbia, Missouri, CARFAX launched its first vehicle history report in 1986 and has since grown into part of S&P Global's Mobility segment (S&P announced in April 2025 its intent to spin Mobility off into a standalone public company). CARFAX maintains the region's largest vehicle history database — over 35 billion records sourced from state motor vehicle departments, insurance companies, service shops, and auction houses.

Beyond the consumer-facing Vehicle History Report, CARFAX powers dealer subscription tools, the myCARFAX service-history tracker, CARFAX for Police fleet products, and data/analytics products for the broader automotive ecosystem.

Where will I work?

CARFAX is hybrid by default, with headquarters in Centreville, Virginia and around 20 offices across the United States. Engineering, data, marketing, and sales teams mix remote and in-office work; field sales and some onsite roles are regionally based.

What is the CARFAX team like?

Around 1,400 people work across engineering, data science, product, sales, marketing, customer success, and operations. The culture emphasises teamwork, the "CARFAX Playbook," and a high-energy, collaborative environment.

Work-Life Balance

CARFAX runs a company-wide 4-day summer work week: every Friday off between Memorial Day and Labor Day (roughly late May through early September), at full salary. This is on top of a company-wide winter holiday shutdown. Applies broadly to regular full- and part-time employees.
