What is Cape?
Cape is a privacy-first mobile carrier — a US telecom built from the ground up so that the network itself collects as little of your personal data as possible. Founded by national-security and telecom veterans and backed by roughly $176M through Series C (investors include a16z), Cape sells secure mobile service to consumers who care about surveillance-resistance and to government and defense customers whose phones are genuine targets. It builds its own mobile core, signalling protections and eSIM technology rather than reselling someone else's stack.
Where will I work?
Cape is anchored in New York City and Arlington, Virginia, with some Remote-USA roles. Because some of its customers are government agencies, a minority of roles (about a quarter of the current board) mention security-clearance eligibility — most do not.
What is the Cape team like?
Around 180 people across engineering (mobile, infrastructure, cryptography), product, security, business development and operations — a deep-tech telecom team solving problems most carriers won't touch. An honest note: Cape is young enough that it has no meaningful review-site footprint yet (the Glassdoor "Cape" with 60 reviews is an unrelated UK industrial firm), so we can't report a work-life-balance rating. Compensation is geo-adjusted and every offer carries equity — "meaningful equity so you share in the value you help create" — and hiring runs through a straightforward Ashby pipeline. The engineering surface is unusually deep for a carrier: iOS and Android apps, mobile-core infrastructure, eSIM tooling and cryptographic systems all live in-house.
