About Albury City Council
What is AlburyCity?
AlburyCity is Albury City Council, the local government for the regional city of Albury on the Murray River, on the New South Wales side of the border with Victoria. "On 13 October 2017 AlburyCity and The City of Wodonga entered into an historic partnership between the two cities", under the banner Two Cities One Community, and in 2025 the two councils worked together to review and re-commit to it. The Council runs a broad set of services: planning and environment, transport operations, parks and open space, waste programmes, customer relations, out-of-school-hours care and the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA).
Where will I work?
On site in Albury. Office-based roles are "located at the AlburyCity Administration Building, 553 Kiewa Street, Albury", with occasional visits to external sites and depots as required. Parks, facilities and operations roles work from depots and sites around the city, and museum roles from the Murray Art Museum Albury.
What is the AlburyCity team like?
A large regional council with a formal reward and recognition framework, which "has a range of benefits and incentives, including; skills-based pay increases, study assistance and performance bonuses". Staff are recognised for specific achievements and for demonstrating AlburyCity's values. The Council also benchmarks its pay: "We regularly compare our pay rates with those of other councils and employers to make sure our salaries are fair". Outside work, the Social Club "holds functions every six to eight weeks, plus mid-year and Christmas celebrations".
Work-Life Balance
AlburyCity's careers page is plain about it: "All full time staff have the opportunity to work a nine day fortnight." Its adverts repeat the offer — "a nine-day fortnight (full-time staff)" — and write the rostered day off into the employment conditions of the role: a 35-hour week, "Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines". A nine-day fortnight here is the same weekly hours arranged so that every second week includes a rostered day off; it is a redistribution, not a cut in hours, and some outdoor roles are based on a 38-hour week. We list only AlburyCity jobs whose own advert names the nine-day fortnight. Staff can also "choose to purchase additional leave for a 12 month period".
