What’s the role? Etsy’s Data Platform organization builds systems and infrastructure for collecting, storing, and analyzing huge datasets in batch and streaming contexts, and we’re looking for a Senior Engineer to join our team. You’ll be a leader on the Data Storage squad, contributing to technical strategy and driving some of our most critical projects. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic, product-focused leadership. You’ll be responsible for guiding our tools and platforms towards a cohesive vision, ensuring they align with business priorities, and incorporating the latest industry capabilities to unlock new opportunities for our internal customers. You’ll stay in direct communication with those customers to ensure our work is tightly aligned to their areas of greatest need.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Data Storage.

What does the day-to-day look like?
- You will contribute directly to projects, shaping our technical direction, and collaborating with our customers.
- You will engage in engineering and development work, guide your colleagues in technical decisions, deeply understand our problem spaces, and mentor engineers.
- You will also collaborate closely with engineering managers, product managers, internal data customers, and other engineers to design robust end-to-end solutions and incorporate industry trends that can drive business value.
- You will help build alignment and support for your ideas and will create presentations, write technical documentation, and share insights widely across a variety of stakeholders.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- Strong communication skills for influencing stakeholders across teams and leadership levels
- Familiarity with tools like BigQuery, Iceberg, and cloud storage at scale
- Experience writing and tuning sophisticated SQL queries for data exploration and analysis
- Ability to guide architectural direction while being receptive to feedback
- Collaborative mindset, and comfort working with a diverse range of roles and departments
- Interest and experience mentoring and growing other engineers
- Flexibility with languages and tools and a willingness to learn whatever is necessary to get the job done
Compensation & Benefits
In addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.
Etsy uses two geographic pay zones to reflect the labor markets where we compete for talent: one called Geo-1, covering the New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area, and one called Geo-2, covering all other U.S. locations. Salary ranges for this role vary by zone and are listed below.
Location
We prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office. Salary Range:
• Geo-1: 159,000.00 - 215,000.00 USD Annual • Geo-2: 143,000.00 - 193,000.00 USD Annual
