About This Role

At Biogen, Development Asset Leaders (DALs) serve as enterprise leaders responsible for integrating scientific, clinical, regulatory, operational, and business strategies to maximize the value of development assets. As Executive Director, Development Asset Leadership, you will lead and develop a team of experienced DALs while helping shape the strategic direction of Biogen's development portfolio.

This role is designed for a seasoned drug development executive who has successfully led clinical-stage assets through major development inflection points and understands how to balance scientific opportunity, development risk, portfolio value, and resource investment. You will serve as a leader of leaders, establishing standards of excellence in asset leadership and ensuring consistent, high-quality decision-making across programs.

Reporting to the Head of Development Asset Leadership, you will mentor Development Asset Leads responsible for advancing innovative therapies across multiple therapeutic areas and modalities, while supporting critical portfolio decisions through active engagement with governance bodies and senior leadership.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience leading cross-functional development teams, driving integrated asset strategies, and influencing enterprise-level decisions in a complex biopharmaceutical environment.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Development Asset Leads (DALs), many operating at the Director and Senior Director level, while building organizational capability and succession strength within the function.

  • Mentor DALs across early development clinical stage and/or marketed assets in the development and execution of integrated asset plans that balance scientific opportunity, probability of technical and regulatory success, competitive differentiation, timeline, cost, and portfolio value.

  • Guide teams through key development milestones, including IND-enabling activities, first-in-human studies, proof-of-concept generation, portfolio investment decisions, and lifecycle strategy planning.

  • Ensure effective cross-functional integration across Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Safety, Biometrics, Clinical Pharmacology, Translational Medicine, CMC, Commercial, and other partner functions.

  • Support DALs in driving accountability for functional deliverables and ensuring alignment between functional plans and overarching asset strategies.

  • Represent development programs and portfolio perspectives in discussions with senior leadership and governance forums, influencing critical investment and prioritization decisions.

  • Partner closely with Research, Development, Commercial, Finance, and Portfolio Strategy leaders to optimize resource allocation and portfolio performance.

  • Contribute to the evolution of Biogen's asset leadership model through participation in departmental initiatives, communities of practice, and organizational capability-building efforts.

Who You Are

You are a strategic and scientifically grounded development leader with a demonstrated history of advancing complex therapeutic programs through key clinical and portfolio milestones. You can seamlessly integrate scientific data, clinical strategy, regulatory considerations, commercial opportunity, and financial implications to guide investment decisions.

You are recognized for your ability to lead through influence, develop high-performing leaders, and navigate ambiguity while maintaining focus on long-term value creation. Your leadership style combines strong strategic thinking with pragmatism, humility, and a commitment to developing others.

You are energized by solving complex development challenges and helping teams make difficult trade-off decisions that ultimately improve outcomes for patients.
