The School of Information Studies at Syracuse University (the iSchool, ischool.syracuse.edu) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor in Library and Information Science (LIS), to begin in Fall 2027.
The iSchool has been accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) since 1927. Our Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) is offered on campus and online, and the online program has grown rapidly, extending our reach to students across the country and the world. The program is organized around the themes of Information Justice, Equity, and Community Engagement (InJECT), and our core faculty combine deep expertise in cultural heritage and memory studies, evidence-based assessment and instruction, public and community librarianship, and information equity, social justice, and epistemic justice.
This position is focused on teaching. We seek a creative, engaging instructor who can help us sustain and strengthen the MSLIS curriculum. We are looking for applicants who can teach in one or more of the following areas:
- Organization of information, including cataloging, metadata, and digital curation;
- Archives and cultural heritage; and
- School library media and children and youth library services.
Knowledge of the application of artificial intelligence within any of these areas is welcome.
The faculty member will teach both in person and online. The position is based in Syracuse and requires a regular in-person presence. Our highly collegial environment values interdisciplinary collaboration among the School’s faculty and with other members of the university and beyond. Research is welcome but not required.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by a union, SEIU Local 200 United.
