Established in 1865, The George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in Washington, DC. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. The law school is located on the GW campus in the downtown neighborhood familiarly known as Foggy Bottom.
The George Washington University Law School Development and Alumni Relations Department (DAR) is responsible for leading the school’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations, foundations and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW’s mission of excellence in education, research and scholarship.
School-based development staff works in close collaboration with development staff across the DAR division to create and execute sustainable development programs that will broaden GW’s base of philanthropic support. The Law DAR office establishes the overarching fundraising strategy for the Law School and best practices in development, ensuring both consistency and high-quality standards in all university and School-based fundraising efforts.
This support position is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support on various development activities. Core responsibilities include the tracking of engagement and fundraising metrics, the development of leadership briefings, event management, execution of gift acknowledgments, and travel reimbursements. This position also works to track activities related to fundraising programs and initiatives.
Primary Duties:
- Provide support preparing donor correspondence and briefings for Law School and University leadership.
- Assist with the tracking of alumni and VIP prospect engagement, which includes working closely with the school’s major gifts team, constituent relations team, program directors, the career development office, and other units throughout the school.
- Run various reports, including the weekly donor report, and assist with the execution of corresponding gift acknowledgement letters.
- Assist the Law School advancement team with crowdfunding campaigns, including liaising with the Central Office of Annual Giving to create and manage custom giving pages.
- Provide support to alumni engagement events, including Reunion Weekend, by running RSVP reports, name tag creation/management, maintaining vendor relationships and invoices, and other tasks necessary for successful alumni events.
- Manage PCard/Concur expense reporting for the members of the team as needed.
- Process gifts on behalf of the fundraising team and ensure accurate allocation to funds while maintaining donor confidentiality.
- Assist on a regular cadence with the updating of ‘alumni notes,’ which involves coordinating with the Law School Marketing & Communication team.
- Maintain meeting notes and minutes from various Law School board and council meetings throughout the year.
- Assist in the planning and execution of events as appropriate, which includes occasional evening and weekend work.
