About Resort Municipality of Whistler

What is the Resort Municipality of Whistler?

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is the local government of Canada's most famous mountain resort town — a community of about 14,000 residents that hosts millions of visitors a year and co-hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics. Created in 1975 as BC's first resort municipality, the RMOW runs the village, parks, trails, utilities, planning, and Meadow Park Sports Centre, and stewards a place "recognized on an international stage as a year-round world-class resort destination" — the municipality's own words, from a current advert.

Where will I work?

In Whistler, BC — municipal hall, the sports centre, works yards and facilities around the resort — with a hybrid work program for office roles (named in the municipality's own adverts alongside the schedule). Staff also get access to a recreation and transit pass program, and employee housing programs exist in one of Canada's tightest housing markets.

What is the RMOW team like?

A few hundred permanent staff plus seasonal recreation teams, working for a council whose whole mandate is quality of life — for residents, visitors and its own people. An honest note: an employer this size has only a thin review-site footprint, so we can't report a work-life-balance rating; the written schedule below comes from the municipality's own careers page and adverts. Our feed lists the full-time professional roles; casual recreation positions run on their own rosters.

Work-Life Balance

From the RMOW careers page, under the heading "Work/life balance": "A compressed work schedule for full-time employees, which includes a day off (flex day) every two weeks." Every second week is a four-day week — and current senior adverts repeat it plainly: "a nine-day fortnight schedule … as well as our hybrid work program."
