About Uplift
What is Uplift?
Uplift (uplift.ltd) is a fully remote software development agency and product incubator founded in 2016 by Paul and Marius and headquartered at 2480 Kittredge Loop Dr, Boulder, Colorado. The company's self-described mission is "to perfect our work-life while learning, building, and enjoying our free time." Uplift takes on client engagements and incubates its own software products, with deliberate freedom in project selection — they note "Uplift has no outside investors, and thus no one who can dictate the future of our company or our products."
Where will I work?
Uplift has been remote-first since inception. All open roles are 100% remote, with team members spread across multiple time zones — described as "a global virtual team." The team meets at annual offsites to maintain in-person connection. The legal address is Boulder, CO 80310, but day-to-day work happens wherever team members live.
What is the Uplift team like?
Uplift is intentionally small: roughly 10 people, organized around six explicitly named values: Personal Growth, Open Communication, Diverse Team, Work/Life Balance, Flexible Work, and Product-Driven. The agency hires "well-rounded software engineers who don't just code what the spec says" — preferring critical thinkers who actively improve their craft. Team voices on the careers page highlight the laid-back culture, the feeling that "my voice mattered as an employee," and the family-like atmosphere fostered by remote work plus the deliberate hiring filter.
Work-Life Balance
Uplift offers a four-day work week as part of its self-directed schedule philosophy: "Indulge in the freedom to design your own work schedule, whether that includes a four day work week, evening hours, or whatever suits you and your lifestyle, so long as it's clearly communicated." Most team members are initially hired as contractors, with employment offers extended after 3-6 months if both sides find the fit right.
Hiring Process
Uplift has a transparent 5-step hiring process documented on their careers page. Step 1: Apply (under 5 minutes). Step 2: Complete an assessment (20-40 minutes) — multi-step form covering React/TypeScript/GraphQL/HTML/CSS for frontend, Python/Django or Node.js for backend, or portfolio review for designers/QA. Step 3: 30-45 minute screening interview. Step 4: 6-12 hour take-home coding project (compensated at a flat rate once hired). Step 5: One or two 1-2 hour interviews, sometimes in parallel with the coding exercise.
