About University of Nevada, Las Vegas
What is the University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a public research university whose About page says "UNLV is Nevada's largest university with nearly 34,000 students", calls it "R1 Carnegie classified as 'Very High Research,'" and says "UNLV is home to more than 3,000 faculty and staff". Its history page dates it to "Since its first classes were held in 1957". This profile covers the full-time Administrative Faculty postings on the university's Workday site: the Benefits-At-A-Glance page defines them as "Employees whose primary functions are professional in nature and not academic instructional work. These employees fall under a 12-month contract." Classified staff, 9-month academic faculty and part-time instructors are not listed, because their leave is different (see below).
How much time off do I get?
The Time Off and Leave page gives annual leave for "administrative faculty and academic faculty on 12-month contracts" as "16 hours per month" with a "Waiting Period None", which is 192 hours or 24 days of 8 hours a year. It adds a "Carry-Over Maximum 384 hours to the next fiscal year" and says "Time off accrual is earned at the conclusion of each month." The Holidays page says "University employees receive 12 paid holidays. Holiday leave is paid time off." and lists New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Nevada Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, Family Day and Christmas Day. Sick leave is separate: "240 hours available upon date of hire. No accrual during the first year. 16 hours per month after the first year." Annual leave plus holidays is 24 + 12 = 36 days at entry. Classified staff accrue "10 hours per month" of annual leave with fewer than 10 years of service, and "Letter of Appointment, Part-time Employees and Instructors, Temporary Hourly Workers" are told "You do not accrue annual or sick leave", so those postings are out of scope here.
What benefits come with the job?
The Benefits and Wellness page says "UNLV offers medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance plans", and the faculty page adds that "Health coverage begins on the first day of the month concurrent with, or following your date of hire" for staff working at least 50% FTE, with "Basic life insurance" and "Long-term disability" in the plan list. Retirement is mandatory and replaces Social Security: "All university employees are required to participate in a mandatory retirement plan in lieu of Social Security", which for administrative faculty is the "NSHE Retirement Plan Alternative (NSHE RPA)" with "recordkeeper TIAA", alongside voluntary 403(b) and 457 plans. The postings also list "No state income tax", "Tuition discounts at Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) schools" and "Tuition discounts for spouses, domestic partners, and dependents". The faculty page says "Spouses and financial dependents under the age of 24 are also eligible for discounted college tuition" and offers "seminars, training academies, and on-demand training modules". Wellness comes through "RebelWELL, a range of wellness resources to support your emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing", including an "Employee Assistance Program (EAP)" that "connects employees with resources, short-term counseling, and service providers".
Where and how will I work?
Most postings are on the Main Campus at 4505 S. Maryland Pkwy., Las Vegas, NV 89154, and the postings are professional, non-instructional roles such as a Purchasing Analyst, a Research Administrator and an Instructional Art Manager. A few are listed as remote in the title, for example "(REMOTE)" for the Instructional Art Manager in UNLV Online Education and "REMOTE - BASED IN FLORIDA" for a Regional Recruiter. The benefits page says "UNLV recognizes that workplace flexibility supports your well-being and helps the university achieve its goals", HR publishes "Tips for Working Remotely", and two postings are titled "Flexible Work Schedule". Treat the remote and flexible arrangements as per-role, not a campus-wide policy.
What do the roles pay?
Pay is stated in the posting text. 11 of the 49 postings read give an annual range, such as "Salary range is $70,000-$75,000" for the Purchasing Analyst and "Salary range is $116,700 - 133,300, or commensurate with the labor market" for the Trades Director in Facilities Management; the rest say "Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions", and none gives an hourly rate. Each posting carries a stated "Posting Close Date" (01/31/2027 for the Purchasing Analyst) and the same "BENEFITS OF WORKING AT UNLV" block listing paid time off, sick leave, holidays and the retirement plans.
