About University of Florida
What is the University of Florida?
The University of Florida is a public research university in Gainesville. Its About page calls it "one of the nation's top public universities and a world-class destination for students, scholars and innovators", dates its story from "Driving Innovation Since 1853", and describes "the state's most comprehensive university, a land grant institution with ties to every Florida county". It adds that "Florida is the only U.S. university with six health-sciences colleges on a single campus". This profile covers the regular full-time staff adverts on its PageUp careers site: TEAMS (Technical, Executive, Administrative and Managerial Support) staff, not faculty, postdoctoral, student, temporary (OPS), trades or clinical roles.
Where will I work?
The careers feed listed 706 adverts on 2026-10-20, 218 of them regular full-time staff. This page lists 137 and leaves out 81: custodial, grounds and trades roles, and the veterinary, dental, nursing, physician and other clinical ones. Of the 137, 113 are in Gainesville, nine at the Jacksonville campus and 15 in Florida counties (ten in Palm Beach County, two in Hillsborough and one each in Orange, Miami-Dade, and Escambia with Santa Rosa). Titles include "Data Scientist I", "Assistant Vice President for Engagement", "Director of Development - Alumni Affairs - College of Medicine" and "Extension Program Manager - EFNEP Orange County". The HR pages read state no university-wide remote or hybrid arrangement, so check each advert.
What is the UF team like?
The Employee Assistance Program is "No-cost, confidential solutions to life's challenges", and "The EAP has three therapists who can provide mental health talk therapy to eligible employees." The services page lists the Ombuds, the Sick Leave Pool ("Combine sick leave for collective use") and Aid-a-Gator, which exists to "Help colleagues facing hardships due to sudden illness, family crises, or natural disasters". Worklife describes "A whole-person approach to well-being", and the GatorPerks program offers "exclusive discounts to UF faculty and staff".
Work-Life Balance
The Vacation Leave page says "Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at a rate of 6.769 hours biweekly, approximately 22 days per year", with "no waiting period for using vacation leave". "Leave-accruing Academic Personnel and TEAMS employees are eligible for eleven paid holidays each year", and "have four personal leave days per year (32 hours assuming full-time status) to be used during the December holiday closing period". A new full-time TEAMS employee therefore has 22 vacation days, 11 holidays and four closing-period days, 37 total days (33 without the personal days). Sick leave is separate: staff "earn four hours of sick leave each biweekly pay period" and "There is no limit to the amount of sick leave employees may accrue". TEAMS staff can also "cash out up to 16 hours" of vacation each November, and may request up to four weeks of vacation leave on giving notice to resign or retire.
