What is TrustedHousesitters?
TrustedHousesitters is "a one-of-a-kind community marketplace connecting pet parents seeking the best possible pet care with loving, verified sitters looking for an authentic travel experience." Members buy an annual membership and "no money changes hands between members": sitters stay in real homes in exchange for looking after the pets, and the pets stay in their own routine. Andy Peck founded it in Brighton in 2010, "Inspired by a special little dog named Dave", and it now has more than 240,000 members and has facilitated more than 16 million nights of pet sitting; "a sit starts every two minutes somewhere on the planet." Rockpool invested in 2018, and in 2023 Mayfair Equity Partners backed a management buyout, taking a majority stake alongside the management team, after the company grew 158% year on year in 2022. It says it was valued at $100 million by the end of 2023, became a certified B Corp the following year, and aims to reach 1 million members.
Where will I work?
Anywhere, within limits. Postings promise "Work fully remotely from anywhere in the world - as long as you follow compliance as a UK tax resident", and staff "can work remotely from as many house sits as they like", with up to £500 a year towards travel to and from sits. The company describes "over 100 remote workers worldwide", and both roles open in September 2026, a senior product designer and a 12-month fixed-term agile coach, are advertised as remote in the UK. Staff also get access to Spaces co-working locations across the globe, and the company hosts "an all-expenses-paid meetup each quarter" and funds team events, remote or in person, throughout the year.
What is the TrustedHousesitters team like?
"Team Trusted is currently made up of 24 different nationalities, 59% of whom identify as female," the careers page says, and 27% of its engineering team identifies as female. Its five values are "Creating the win-win-win", "Owning it with passion", "Challenging what's possible", "Shipped is better than perfect" and "Question with respect, commit with unity". Engineers work on "a modern cloud native platform, using technologies like Python Django, React, and React Native", on everything from payments and subscriptions to messaging and machine-learning matching of sitters and pet parents. In 2023 the company invited all full-time, UK-based employees to become shareholders, and permanent staff get what it calls a "Generous equity package". Postings invite candidates to share their pronouns and commit to equal opportunities throughout interviews and selection.
Work-Life Balance
Every posting offers "25 days off per year, plus bank holidays and festive closure between Christmas and New Year (36 days + Christmas Day for some roles)"; the careers page puts it as "28 days off plus bank holidays". Either way, that is 36 days off a year. "Depending on your role within the business, you'll have the option to customise your work hours to better align with your personal schedule," the postings add. There is also "regular time set aside for learning and growth", two paid volunteering days a year through the Trusted Giving scheme, and weekly virtual yoga.
