About SwingDev
What is SwingDev?
SwingDev—a hippo company is a software and product team in Poland that works on home insurance technology for Hippo. Its job adverts describe it as "the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance." The company's website says it started in IT as a software house with Hippo as one of its clients, and that "we were acquired by Hippo in 2021." Its own timeline opens in 2014 with "SwingDev story begins!" and records "Level up to 100 people in Poland" for 2023. The Work page lists a stack that includes TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, Kubernetes and React, and the current openings span back-end engineering, QA, project management and the People team.
Where will I work?
Most openings are listed as "Remote in Poland", while the Employee Experience Specialist role is based in Warsaw. The company says: "Drop by our Warsaw office if you would like, work from home, or wherever and however is best for you." The Warsaw office is on Nowy Świat Street, "spread across two floors in a historic building", and the adverts mention a chill room, free snacks and ice cream, and a free Friday lunch in the office. As part of Hippo the team also has colleagues in Palo Alto, Austin, New Jersey and Dallas, and works closely with US-based teams.
What is the SwingDev team like?
The adverts describe "mature, companionable people" and "a culture of trust, empathy, and positivity". Teammates share knowledge through meetups, hackathons, a tech all-hands, team workshops, mentoring and Personal Development Days, and the About page mentions feedback "twice a year during career reviews with our managers". Hiring starts with a CV or a showcase of your work, then a Zoom conversation with a recruiter, a practical skills check (for engineers, a 30-minute tech interview and a live coding session), a catch-up with the people who run the company and your future manager, and feedback within a few days; the careers page says steps can differ by role, and the adverts list their own. Each of the five current vacancies shows its salary range in PLN.
Work-Life Balance
"Remote work & flexible working hours" is listed among the benefits on the careers page and in the benefits section of the Back-end, QA, IT Project Manager and Recruitment Manager adverts; the Employee Experience Specialist advert says "Hybryd work & flexible working hours". On the About page the company says "Flexibility is what we trust to be the best tool while making things easier." No core hours are published. The careers FAQ says "it’s up to us what time we start and finish our working day", that "meetings with the US take place in the late afternoons" and that the aim is "to limit extended work hours to no more than two days per week", depending on the role or project. Some adverts ask for overlap with the US team: "Are available in the afternoons" and "occasional evening meetings may be necessary"; the QA advert asks for afternoons until 8 PM three times a week. The About page also offers "Need a workation or want to work somewhere warm for the winter? That's cool with us too." Paid time off and sick leave are listed, and the adverts add "6 Personal Development & 4 Voluntary Non-service days".
