About Swansea University
What is Swansea University?
Swansea University says "Founded in 1920, the University stands in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula", and that it is "Based across two locations, the Singleton Park and Bay Campuses". Its postings call it "a research-led university that has been making a difference since 1920" whose "stunning waterfront campuses and multicultural community make us a desirable workplace for colleagues from around the world". The contact page says "We welcome calls in Welsh or English", and one current post is titled "Senior Simulation Educator - Welsh Essential". On 2026-10-20 the vacancies came from the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science, Digital Services and Estates and Campus Services.
Where will I work?
Roles sit on the two Swansea campuses: the postings' locations read "Bay Campus, Swansea", "Singleton Campus, Swansea" and "Singleton or Bay Campus, Swansea", and one post is at "St David's Park, Carmarthen". The Singleton Park campus is at Singleton Park, Swansea SA2 8PP, and the Bay Campus at Fabian Way, Crymlyn Burrows, Swansea SA1 8EN. Each posting states its "Working Pattern": on 2026-10-20 nine of the eleven were full time and two (the Teaching Fellow in Plant Ecology and the Forensic Psychology Teaching Fellow) part time. The benefits page lists "Working from home/remote-working" among the flexible patterns staff may ask for, and says "All staff have the right to apply for flexible working arrangements" with applications "considered with the business needs in mind"; no posting states a hybrid pattern or a number of office days. The board listed eleven postings: a 1st Line IT Service Desk Analyst, a UK-SIFS Training Manager, a Post Doctoral Research Associate, three research posts, two teaching fellows, a Senior Simulation Educator, a Senior Lecturer in Advanced Practice and a Women's Rugby Player Development Centre Lead.
What is the Swansea team like?
Staff have on campus "a medical centre, dental surgery, sports centre, staff counselling service and osteopathic clinic", and the "Health and Wellbeing Academy offers services that complement those provided by the NHS". Each posting names an informal-enquiries contact and gives interview dates, and the university says it provides "quality learning and development opportunities for academic and professional services staff". Pay is published with every advert: "Salary bands for each role are stated when advertised, with staff starting at the first point of the salary scale within that band and annual increments being paid each year". Its postings promise "an excellent work-life balance".
Work-Life Balance
The Holidays section of the Benefits and Rewards page says "so we offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 31 days per year, plus statutory holidays, for all staff", and "The annual leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December". With Wales's eight public holidays that is 31 + 8 = 39 days a year. The page adds "We recognise that people have commitments outside their job and we provide a highly desirable working environment that allows our employees to achieve the right work/life balance for them". Flexible patterns it lists are "Part-time/reduced hours", "Term-time only", "Variable working hours", "Job share" and "Working from home/remote-working". Family leave: "generous maternity leave and pay for those who have completed at least 52 weeks of continuous service by the estimated date of childbirth", paternity of "a maximum of two weeks off; at full pay", shared parental leave to "share 52 weeks' leave for the first year", and "enhanced adoption leave and pay for staff who have 26 weeks' service"; the pay rates are not stated.
Perks and Benefits
The My Lifestyle portal offers "A shopping discount scheme both online and in-store", "A cycle to work salary sacrifice scheme" and "A car-leasing salary sacrifice scheme". Childcare is a "Students' Union Day Nursery situated at the Singleton campus which provides high quality childcare for children aged three months to eight years"; the childcare voucher scheme is closed to new joiners, and the page points to the government's Tax-Free Childcare. On-campus health services include a medical centre, a dental surgery, a sports centre and an osteopathic clinic, and the university runs a staff counselling service. Pensions have their own page, and the Benefits and Rewards page states no rates.
