About Starburst
What is Starburst?
Starburst is the data analytics platform built by the original creators of Trino (formerly Presto). Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Boston, the company "delivers enterprise intelligence at scale by giving organizations secure, governed access to all their data, wherever it lives." Built for distributed data environments and grounded in open standards including Trino and Apache Iceberg, Starburst lets enterprises power AI and analytics "while helping organizations avoid vendor lock-in." Its mission is direct: "to free our customers from the tyranny of data lock-in." Today more than 250 leading organizations trust Starburst to power their modern data applications, AI workloads and business-critical analytics.
Where will I work?
Starburst is a global, distributed company that "support[s] All-Stars in different locations with a focus on our major offices in Boston, San Francisco, London, Warsaw, and Tel Aviv." Most roles follow a hybrid model — for example, a Warsaw engineering role is "based in our Warsaw office and follows a hybrid model, with an expectation of being onsite 1-2 days per week." Many roles also involve around 25% in-person travel for onboarding, team offsites and customer engagements.
What is the Starburst team like?
Starburst people are called "All-Stars," and the culture is anchored in eight values across character, competence and ownership: "One Team," "Say The Last 10%," "Be Resilient," "Deliver Results," "Dive Deep," "Speed Matters," "Customer Obsessed" and "Take Ownership." It's a fast-moving, ownership-driven environment where, in the company's words, "All-Stars have the opportunity and freedom to realize their true potential." Starburst is "committed to fostering an intentional, inclusive, and diverse culture that drives deep engagement, authentic belonging, and an exceptional All-Star experience."
Work-Life Balance
Starburst backs flexibility with a "competitive Total Rewards program that reflects our commitment to a rewarding and supportive work environment," including "flexible paid time off" and remote-work opportunities. The hybrid model (typically 1-2 onsite days per week for office-based roles) gives people meaningful control over how they structure their week, while paid parental leave supports All-Stars through major life moments.
Perks and Benefits
Starburst offers comprehensive health insurance coverage; life insurance, disability and income protection; and Employee Assistance Programs. Time off is generous and flexible, with "Flexible Paid Time Off" and "Paid Parental Leaves." Every employee shares in the company's success through equity — "all employees receive equity packages (ISOs)" — alongside competitive pay and attractive stock grants. Remote-work opportunities round out a package designed around a distributed, global team.
