About Stack Overflow

What is Stack Overflow?

Founded in 2008, Stack Overflow is one of the most integral websites in the world — with over 83 million questions and answers, and millions of developers visiting its public platform every month. The mission is simple: "Cultivate community. Power learning. Unlock growth."

Stack Overflow's business spans four products: Stack Internal (the trusted knowledge intelligence ecosystem for enterprises, used by over 20,000 organizations), Stack Data Licensing (helping leading AI companies build their products with human-validated, attributed content), Stack Ads (reaching the world's largest technical audience), and the original public Stack Overflow Q&A platform that started it all. Stack Overflow is part of Stack Exchange Inc. and was named Built In's 2026 Best Place to Work — New York City, alongside recognition for Best Company Leadership, Happiness, Perks and Benefits, Work-Life Balance, Compensation, and Outlook.

Where will I work?

Stack Overflow has been remote-first since founding. Today 100% of Stackers work remotely from their homes in the four hiring hubs: the US, Canada, UK, and Germany. Stack Overflow supports all employees with home office reimbursements and Home Internet stipends, and encourages people to set their working hours on calendar and in Slack so flexibility is the norm, not the exception. The company's registered address is 110 William Street, New York.

What is the Stack Overflow team like?

Stackers describe a "smart, talented, and collaborative" team built on six core values: Adopt a customer-first mindset, Be flexible and inclusive, Be transparent, Empower people to deliver outstanding results, Keep community at our center, and Learn, share, grow. Employee Resource Groups range from Black & Brown to LGBTQ+ to neurodiversity-focused communities, all of which "meet regularly, plan company-wide programming, and give feedback to leadership." The company emphasises promoting from within, with active coaching investment to help employees meet and exceed their goals.

Work-Life Balance

Stack Overflow offers generous paid vacation, unlimited sick days, family care leave, and Summer Fridays. Parental leave is 16 weeks at 100% pay for any parent, and primary caregivers have the option to come back to work part-time for up to one year. There's a special caregiver policy, regular yoga and meditation classes during the work day, and a company-paid Calm subscription for everyone.
