What is Smalls?
Smalls is a premium, human-grade cat food company on a mission to help feline friends live happier, healthier lives. The brand makes food with 100% human-grade ingredients — no fillers, no mystery ingredients — and is scaling toward $300M in revenue across direct-to-consumer subscription, e-tail partnerships (Amazon, Chewy), and a rapidly expanding retail footprint.
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in NYC (53 Wooster Street), Smalls has built what the company itself calls "something rare: a brand with genuine staying power." The Series B-backed business operates across multiple distribution channels and is recognised for its quality bar in a category long dominated by mass-market kibble.
Where will I work?
Fully remote across the US. "Our team is spread across the US day to day, but we travel for department & company off-sites and retreats." All current Ashby roles are listed as "Remote US — Full time." The NYC office at 53 Wooster Street serves as legal/operational HQ but the working culture is remote-first.
What is the Smalls team like?
A 48-person team building a premium DTC + retail brand in a category that rewards both consumer love and operational discipline. JDs reflect a high standards bar — for example, the SVP, Marketing role lists "deep familiarity with omnichannel or retail-expanding DTC businesses — having navigated the transition from DTC-first to omnichannel with both a retail and e-tail component."
Roles are oriented around product marketing, commercial experimentation (pricing, offer testing, site optimization), brand creative, and growth. The team is small enough to be high-trust but operationally ambitious enough to scale to $300M in revenue.
