What is Schellman?
Schellman is a CPA firm that specialises in IT audit and cybersecurity: in its own words, "the only Top 100 CPA firm to specialize in IT Audit and Cybersecurity". It began as a SOC audit firm more than 20 years ago and still issues more than 2,000 SOC reports a year, but it now offers nearly 60 types of audits and assessments, from ISO certifications (including ISO 27001 and ISO 42001) and PCI assessments to FedRAMP and CMMC assessments for US government work, healthcare assessments, penetration testing and red teaming, AI governance, sustainability services and training. It is an accredited FedRAMP 3PAO and was one of the first C3PAOs cleared by the CMMC Accreditation Body. Its US-based team serves clients in more than 30 countries, and Schellman is a certified B Corp, headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
Where will I work?
Most likely from home. Schellman offers "the opportunity to work remotely, unless otherwise stated in the job requirements", every current opening is listed as remote (nationwide or within a named state), and employees can live in any major US city. Some travel is required each year for in-person training, team meet-ups and strategy meetings. Client travel runs Monday to Thursday so that weekends stay free, and anyone who travels outside those days is paid a quarterly travel bonus. Current openings include a senior penetration tester, SOC and CMMC senior associates, account executives and a project manager.
What is the Schellman team like?
"Be one with us, not one of many": as a smaller firm, Schellman says, "you are not one of the masses". Its team is made up of experienced professionals who specialise in a core set of services and can gain exposure to other lines of service, and the firm says it has been named a best place to work for each of the last three years. Schellman encourages team members to gain one certification a year and pays or reimburses the preparation materials, training and exam fees; it also supports CPE requirements and reimburses professional membership dues. Work-Life Balance
"We've redefined the grind," Schellman says. Its people receive "over 30 days of paid leave each year, including 15 days of personal time off (PTO), standard holidays, and the two calendar weeks Schellman closes operations at Christmas and New Year's", and five more days of PTO after two years of service. Standard travel is Monday to Thursday — "Weekends aren't for work" — and remote work is the default.
