What is the Regional Task Force on Homelessness?
The Regional Task Force on Homelessness (RTFH) is a San Diego nonprofit whose roots go back to "an initial Mayor's Task Force nearly forty years ago". Its own words for what it is today: a "robust nonprofit organization with a community of partners committed to preventing and ending homelessness". RTFH hires by email to [email protected] with a cover letter, resume and pay requirements ("No phone calls please"), keeps applications on file for one year, and its employment page currently says "We do not have any job openings at this time", so this profile has no live listings yet. Its technical-support desk for CES and HMIS runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, except the office closures.
What is the RTFH team like?
RTFH's posting describes an internal culture "based on inclusivity and transparency, with a focus on the professional development and well-being of every team member". Two boards, the RTFH Board of Directors and the CoC Board of Directors, work with the staff; the RTFH board provides strategic leadership, governance and financial oversight. The CEO, Tamera Kohler, joined in 2015 and the posting calls her "a nationally recognized and respected leader on all issues related to homelessness". The posting names a Director of Government Relations, Policy and Communications and a Digital Media & Content Coordinator on the team, and the site's CoC pages cover monitoring, CES and HMIS technical assistance and funding opportunities.
Work-Life Balance
RTFH runs a 9/80 schedule across the organization. Its office-closures calendar says "The RTFH office is closed every other Friday as part of an organization-wide 9/80 flexible schedule", lists the 2026 closure dates (October 2, 16 and 30 among them), and carries the same wording on its 2021 entries, so the pattern is years old. The contact page repeats "Our offices are closed every other Friday", and the April 2026 posting lists a "9/80 compressed work schedule with alternating Fridays off" first among its compensation and benefits. A 9/80 is 80 hours over nine days. Paid time off is "120 hours of paid time off, and 14 paid holidays".

The April 2026 posting lists medical, dental, vision and life insurance, a flexible spending account (FSA), a Simple IRA with a 3% match, 120 hours of paid time off and 14 paid holidays, alongside the 9/80 schedule. It published a salary range of $110,000 to $135,000 for that senior role. Beyond that posting RTFH publishes little about its benefits, so ask about leave, retirement and health plan details during the interview process.
