About Recidiviz
What is Recidiviz?
Recidiviz says it is "creating safer, healthier communities by improving outcomes for people in the criminal justice system." It builds software that stitches "together disconnected databases to create a standardized data layer", then uses that layer to power tools that "save time and help criminal justice leaders better support people behind bars and on community supervision." Its work covers areas such as intake, classification, case planning, supervision tasks and discharge.
The co-founders started it "as a volunteer project at Google", and in 2019 it "became a standalone non-profit." Its About page says it now works with 19 state departments of corrections, and its postings say it was part of Y Combinator's 2019 class, earns revenue from state partners, and is also supported by philanthropists and foundations. It was named to Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2026.
Where will I work?
Its postings read "Well-located offices in Oakland and Manhattan, with the flexibility to work remotely or go into either office as you choose", and each lists a location such as "Remote, New York City, or Oakland, CA". They hire remotely in the United States and state "Visa sponsorship: Not available". Several roles travel to state partners: the entry-level data analyst role encourages a trip "approximately once per year", the implementation engineer role "occasional travel (estimated 10%)", the partnerships growth role "30-40% travel in the first year", and the state partnerships manager role "3-5 business days per month".
What is the Recidiviz team like?
Its careers page lists guiding principles including "Assume good intent", "Be a person", "If you find a problem, you fix it", "Creatively unstick yourself" and "Grow from failure". It describes the team as combining "the efficiency of a tech company with the heart of a non-profit", and says "93% of employees would recommend Recidiviz as a great place to work (according to June 2025 anonymous employee survey results)". Its postings say compensation "is standardized based on roles and responsibilities" and that it does "not negotiate compensation offers", with the figure printed in each posting. It also says it considers "qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements."
