What is Railway?
Railway is a cloud infrastructure platform — "the all-in-one intelligent cloud provider." It lets software engineers deploy applications, databases and services to the cloud without managing servers, born in 2020 with the tagline "Infrastructure, instantly." Since then the company has "rebuilt the entire cloud computing stack to help usher in a new golden age of software creation," and its mission is "to build the cloud computing stack that unburdens you, so you can focus more on what matters to you." Today Railway ships weekly to a community of more than 2,000,000 users.
Where will I work?
Anywhere. "Railway is a remote-first team distributed around the world," currently "a team of 39 across 17 countries." Remote work isn't an accommodation — it's how the company is built: "We're autonomous, async heavy, and hire globally. Pick a place, a base, or any space. We're happy wherever you are." Many roles are open to candidates anywhere, and a few are scoped to the United States. There is no central office, though the team gathers in person at biannual retreats "from Mallorca to Bali, Dubai to New Orleans."
What is the Railway team like?
Small, senior and high-ownership. Railway describes itself as "a small team, with high ownership, who are not only passionate about what we do, but seek to be exceptional as well." Its four values are Honorable ("do the right thing for our teammates, customers, and those around us"), Accelerating ("we move quickly and efficiently"), Reliable ("showing up reliably to create a sense of dependability") and Direct ("we are kind-yet-direct, giving feedback to our coworkers such that they may become the best them they can be"). Communication is "mostly-asynchronous," and the company expects new hires to "own it."
Work-Life Balance
Railway protects focus time aggressively. "We have very few meetings. Just a Monday and a Friday to go over the Company Board. We think your time is sacred, whether it's at work, or outside of work." Hours are self-managed across time zones: "We do NOT expect you to work all the time, but you'll have to be diligent about your boundaries." Time off is genuinely unlimited with a floor: "With us, you NEED to take minimum 2 weeks and 1 full week at a time."
