About Oyster HR
What is Oyster?
Oyster is "on a mission to create a more equal world by making it possible for companies everywhere to hire people anywhere." Oyster operates as a global employment platform — helping companies hire, pay, and care for talent across borders without setting up local entities. The product line spans Employer of Record, Global Contractors, Global Payroll, People Partner Services, Employee Benefits, Visa Sponsorship, US PEO, and Salary Insights, all built on the company's Direct+ Infrastructure with deep country availability.
"Right now, the best jobs are limited to people in a handful of the world's wealthiest cities — yet brilliant talent is everywhere. Back in 2019, Oyster began with a simple question: What if we could bridge this gap by making global employment easier?"
Since launching in January 2020, Oyster has built a distributed team of 648+ employees across 70 countries, formed "a diverse leadership team and a workforce that's 60% female," earned top employee engagement scores, raised $286 million at a valuation of $1.2 billion+ (most recently announced as a $150M Series C), and achieved B Corp status in 2023. Oyster was featured in Forbes as #9 in FlexJobs' top 30 companies for remote jobs in 2024.
Where will I work?
Oyster has no borders or HQ: "as long as work is timely, your team is supported, and you're authorized to work where you live, you can work from anywhere." The company is fully remote, forever: "all of oyster's positions are fully remote and you can work from home. forever." Oysters work anywhere with wifi — "at home, at a coworking space, or on the beach." CEO Tony Jamous leads the company; Mark Frein joined as Chief People Officer.
What is the Oyster team like?
The culture is anchored by four core values: Build and Give Trust ("We listen deeply, follow through on commitments, and create psychological safety so hard conversations can happen openly"), Make It Happen ("Progress is our default setting"), Drive Change ("We see change as an opportunity for both Oyster and ourselves to evolve"), and United Team ("We seek out diverse perspectives and bring unheard voices into conversations").
The team operates async-first — "we embrace asynchronous communication and collaborative work and share our practices in the Oyster Public HQ to help other global teams learn from our experiences." The Public HQ is published openly on Notion as an open-source employee guide.
Work-Life Balance
Full-time Oysters get 40 days off per year (including holidays and vacation), or more if required by your country. Mental health support runs through Plumm, a clinical wellbeing service. Each month, employees receive a wellbeing allowance in their ThanksBen wallet to spend on a wide range of options. Parental leave is at least 3 months paid for all new parents, with job protection up to 12 months or as required locally.
