What is Nu Quantum?
Nu Quantum's about page says "Nu Quantum is building the Entanglement Fabric to unlock commercial quantum computing scale-out" and "We were founded in 2018 as a spin-out of the University of Cambridge to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory." Its postings describe the work as integrating "novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure in partnership with world-leading companies and academic groups". The page counts "a growing team of 60+ across nine technical disciplines with research laboratories in Cambridge, UK, and an office in Los Angeles, US", led by Founder and CEO Dr. Carmen Palacios-Berraquero. Its seven open roles on 2026-10-16 were a Principal AMO Physicist, a Neutral Atom Systems Architect, a Systems Software Engineer, a Senior Electronics Engineer and an Electronics Engineer (analogue and mixed-signal), a Photonics Design Engineer and an early-career FPGA Engineer.
Where will I work?
All seven postings are "Full-time, Permanent" in "Cambridge, UK", with "Visa Sponsorship available", and none is remote. The electronics postings describe "lab-based testing and deployment of prototype systems", and the benefits list an "On-site gym membership", "Access to the Cambridge Botanical Gardens" and "Refreshments, including fruit and beverages, are available in the office." The postings also list "Flexible working options" but do not say what they are, so no hybrid pattern is claimed here. The company says it is "not currently accepting applications through recruitment agencies".
What is the Nu Quantum team like?
The careers page calls the team "a diverse team of some of the world's best minds" that "move fast, embrace innovation, and collaborate deeply", and lists six values: Dedication to Excellence, Creative Exploration, Warmth, Purposeful Teamwork, Authentic Communication and Healthy Humility. Staff quoted on the page include a VP Technology ("we know it's useful, there is a sense of purpose!") and a Principal Nanofabrication Engineer who says "In terms of culture I would 100% recommend it to anyone, it's very diverse, healthy, and open." The work crosses disciplines: the electronics role works with "teams spanning mechanical engineering, software and FPGA, optics, nanofabrication, and physics". The leadership page lists eight senior leaders including a Director of People, a VP Engineering and a Chief Financial Officer.
Work-Life Balance
Every posting states annual leave in three close wordings: "28 days annual leave, including a 3-day company shutdown period + UK Public Holidays" (five postings), "... + Public Holidays in England and Wales" (one) and "28 days annual leave, inclusive of a 3-day company shutdown period + UK Bank Holidays" (the Principal AMO Physicist posting), which comes to 36 days with the eight bank holidays. Staff can "purchase up to 5 days holiday per year" and take "1 month paid Sabbatical after 4 years of service".
