What is Northstar Travel Group?

Northstar Travel Group calls itself "the largest and most trusted B2B travel media and information company in the world." Its mission "is to be the leading global provider of trusted information and experiences for the audiences that drive the travel industry, while delivering innovative and high-performing marketing solutions to the businesses seeking to engage them." Its titles include Travel Weekly, whose newsroom runs its print and digital platforms and special issues such as the Power List and the Travel Industry Survey.

Its markets span retail travel, meetings and sports, corporate travel, hotel investment and travel technology, and its events include CruiseWorld, the Global Travel Marketplace, the Mountain Travel Symposium, TEAMS, the Americas Lodging Investment Summit and The Phocuswright Conference. Formerly the Cahners Travel Group, it was bought from Reed Elsevier in 2001; Travel Weekly itself was launched in 1958. Since October 2025 Northstar has been "a wholly-owned, independent subsidiary" of JTB Corp., "one of Japan’s leading travel solutions providers".

Where will I work?

In a hybrid week, from Rutherford, New Jersey or New York City. Both of its current staff roles "split their time" between the office (2 days) and remote work (3 days), and "Flexibility is provided." A managing editor for Travel Weekly ($80,000–$100,000) works from Rutherford, where Northstar is headquartered, and a social media and marketing manager for its Retail Group brands and events ($80,000–$85,000) from Rutherford or New York. Northstar also has offices in London and Singapore.

What is the Northstar team like?

"Northstar Travel Group is a great place to work, learn and grow," its postings say. "We welcome creativity, dedication, drive and passion and offer a fast-paced and fun environment, opportunity and work/life balance." Staff grow through "educational training and mentorship programs" and "industry conferences and events". Northstar believes "that our workforce should reflect the vast diversity of the cultures and communities that are experienced through travel", and of its diversity and inclusion work it says: "Our work is far from over – we continuously push to be better."

Work-Life Balance

Northstar's benefits include summer Fridays and "a generous paid time off package". Its postings do not say which weeks the summer Fridays run or whether they are full or half days. The hybrid week puts staff in the office two days and at home three.
